Workshops with Artists

Each year Zoellner Arts Center makes an effort to provide additional events with visiting guest artists through workshops and masterclasses.

The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass Off-Campus School Workshop | THU NOV 16 | 1pm
Rodney Marsalis effortlessly mixes classical, big band swing, New Orleans jazz and straight-ahead jazz with his group The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, he comes from a musical family (Marsalis). He is offering a one-hour masterclass with him and his band to learn the New Orleans “Second line” and “Stars & Stripes.” Once the student musicians learn these pieces, they are offering them an opportunity to join them on-stage at Zoellner!

Kevin Spencer | MAY 7 & 8 | Professional Development for Teachers
Kevin Spencer is an award-winning performing artist who toured the world with one of the largest and most successful theatrical illusion productions in the U.S. At the pinnacle of his career, Spencer stepped away from the stage and into classrooms and hospitals. As an artist, educator, speaker, and researcher, he now works to create communities where everyone experiences an authentic sense of belonging and no one – for any reason – is relegated to the margins. His work focuses on using the art of magic to impact change in the lives of children with autism, developmental disabilities, intellectual challenges, emotional disturbance, and those who have experienced trauma. He has earned a Master’s degree in Arts & Academic Interdisciplinary Education and a Doctorate in Education.
